To our valued participants,

When we started the Indiana EMS Memorial Foundation in 2015, our mission was to construct a statewide memorial to honor emergency medical technicians and paramedics who died in the line of duty. Today, that remains our core mission. Over the last 5 years the underlying theme of our fundraisers and the Run with Shears 5k have evolved into a meaningful display of camaraderie and solidarity for emergency medical services in Indiana. Hundreds of providers from across the state gather to honor our fallen and celebrate EMS—as one.

In a state of national emergency due to COVID-19, EMS personnel and resources are needed now more than ever.  We also must adhere to guidelines issued by local, state, and federal agencies. Therefore, we must postpone the fifth annual Run with Shears 5k to a date to be determined.

After this time of uncertainty subsides, EMS along with all our healthcare partners, will emerge stronger and more unified than before. We will rise to the challenge, overcome, and heighten our preparedness for whatever comes next. We care for patients. We care for one another; and we will hold the fifth annual Run with Shears 5k this year. The unity is more important now than ever before.

What the race looks like this year is still undecided, as are many aspects of daily life. Our goal is to secure our race director and venue for this Fall. The logistics of that could prove difficult, but this race is important to us and we will run it— even if we run it on a Tuesday. Fortunately, we find ourselves in a unique market where the day of the week isn’t necessarily important for our target audience. EMS providers are just as likely to be off in the middle of the week as they are on a weekend.

The Run with Shears 5k would not be possible without your participationOur relationship with you is important to the success of this endeavor andtransparency is a value we take seriously. These are uncertain times and we don’t have a clear picture of what mass gatherings will look like for the foreseeable future. Your options are:

  • Keep your registration valid and participate this year on a date to be determined.
  • Defer your registration to the 2021 race. You will not be automatically registered. You will receive a code via email to redeem next year.
  • Donate your registration fee to our memorial foundation. Our mission is to build a statewide EMS memorial and advance the profession of EMS.

Please email with the option you select. Please be patient as we work through updating registrations.

On behalf of the board of directors, we sincerely appreciate your understanding, and we look forward to the possibility of our biggest year yet this fall. As soon as a plan is secured, we will communicate to you directly.
